I had this idea for a while to fill a skate bowl with balloons and try to ride through them. It seemed like the chances of it working were slim. I figured they might make your wheels stop. We finally tried it anyways and as you can see from this video we made of Matt Beach, it worked just fine. The popping sounds are not added in. Instead of throwing those glass bottles away, many folks have wondered how to recycle and build with these ubiquitous items.

This photo show walls being constructed on a build in New Mexico by Mike Reynolds at one of his “earthships”.

Apparently back in the 60’s Mr. Heineken came up with the idea of makeing the beer bottles and size and shape of bricks, while concerned about the about of litter and wastage beer bottles were causing. They never came to be, however.

Building with bottles has often been a choice of folk artists, early settlers and the poor in some countries, as they used whatever resources they had to build shelter. Agility Nut has a wonderful website featuring bottle houses around the world.

Girl Talk (aka Greg Gillis) is master of the mashup. In his third release, Night Ripper, the amount of samples used is unreal. Thousands of sounds slammed together, combining everything from Smashing Pumpkins to PM Dawn to M/A/R/R/S to Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch. If you can think of a modern classic or popular song from the last 30 years, chances are it finds it's way into one of these tracks. It's almost like "Name That Tune" as one blogger put it when describing the format of these tracks. The bits and pieces fly in and fly out and you have only seconds to recognize them. It may sound like a mess, but it's pieced together with high skill. My take : It's kind of the ultimate party record.

Hip hop hits, grunge masterpieces, glossy club-shakers and rock anthems are all layered and pieced meticulously together into one non-stop celebration of pop and excess.
